Assisting police, firefighters, and the families of those
seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.

Serving those committed
to serve others.

On October 12, 1997, Atlanta police officer John R. Sowa was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call. At that time a small number of service-minded individuals pulled together to aid the Sowa family, and from that act, the inspiration for creating the Gold Shield Foundation of Metro Atlanta was formed.

Today, our mission is to provide care and assistance to police, firefighters, and the families of those seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. The Foundation is a Non-Profit / 501(c)(3) organization.

Help Metro Atlanta's local heroes

Your donation will help families re-build long-term financial security. To regain self-sustainability, families need temporary assistance to pay for food, housing, medicine, child care, education and other essentials. Donations are used solely to support police and firefighters, and no member of the Foundation is compensated for their efforts.

The Gold Shield Foundation of Metro Atlanta is pleased to announce that we have received a grant award of $5,000 from The Catholic Foundation of North Georgia. These funds will be used to provide financial assistance to first responders and their families.
